1. General: Health Hippo first appeared on the internet in March of 1996, and currently provides over 5000 deep links to internet health policy and regulatory information. Each day the site is visited health practitioners, attorneys, administrators, policy makers, academics and consumers. Prior to its recent move to the Findlaw server, Health Hippo was approaching 2000 hits a day. The site has received well over one million hits during its existence.
2. Health Hippo merely collects and occasionally comments on electronic resources related to health law, policy and regulation (i.e., Health Hippo provides no legal advice).
3. Home Page: The home page contains links to 31 sub-pages, as well as recent reviews of the site's content. Clicking on the Hippo at the top of the page is a link to a 32nd sub-page, with the latest additions to the site ("Hotlist" page, updated monthly). A button bar at the bottom of the front page (frames version) links to the site's sub-pages, regardless of where the user travels on the internet. A no-graphics "cheat sheet" version is also available for PDAs and laptops.
4. Substantive Pages: Most substantive pages are headed with a graphic that provides a "hidden" link to something relevant to the topic. Just under the graphic are anchor links to relevant U.S. Code, CFR, Case Law, GAO Reports, News, Legislation, and/or Related Links, as appropriate. Many of the substantive pages contain brief stories on topics that may be of interest. The pages contain links to automatic internet searches on pre-defined terms. The user is free to modify the searches. Links to the administrative pages appear at the bottom of each substantive page.
5. Administrative Pages: The site contains five "administrative" pages, in addition to the "Hotlist" page, described above.
HIPPOHOME: The front page, described above.
HIPPONEWS: A collection of self-updating news sources.
HIPPOTALK: A forum for email notification of updates, questions and discussion.
STILL SEARCHING: A collection of policy and regulatory internet search engines.
TRAGICALLY HIPP: A collection of diversions from health policy and regulation.
6. Sponsorship: Sponsors of the site enjoy a source of internet exposure, a place to post important health care policy content, and a sense of participation in the collection of health care policy and regulatory information on the internet. Sponsorship of the site or individual pages may be discussed with the site owner.
